Description

Finca Ceriana Nature Reserve is strategically located between the highlands and the lowlands of Volcán – a small and picturesque town placed about 1,500 meters above sea level. The property is one of the few places in the world that combines a gourmet coffee production with the sheep farming, while promotes the environmental conservation.

This full day tour is aimed to those conscious travelers who enjoy the nature, appreciate a good cup of coffee, and are looking to experience a cozy journey through Panama’s forest.

The meeting point will be the local airstrip of Volcán; from here, you’ll start a guided expedition through one of the largest private natural reserves in the highlands while learn about the area, the Baru Volcano, the history of the Janson family, and the Geisha coffee – first discovered in Abyssinia in southwest Ethiopia in 1931, and brought to Panama from Costa Rica in 1963.

Geisha coffee is at this moment the most expensive coffee on earth and its flavor profile is delicate and floral, with honeysuckle and bergamot almost always dominant.

Once in Finca Ceriana you’ll start a gentle hike in the forest, with a stop in an observation platform where you’ll be able to rest for a while and savor a delicious cup of coffee; and a stop in a panoramic outlook where you’ll enjoy impressive views of Chiriquí and Costa Rica lowlands.

About noon, you’ll descend to the lower part of the farm, where a gourmet picnic lunch will be waiting for you under the trees. This homemade lunch includes a nice glass of wine and a pleasant talk with Jannette Janson and Luigi Gonzalez de la Lastra – the owners of the property. Also, after lunch you’ll visit the sugar cane mill to taste fresh sugar cane juice and some other sugar cane products.
